Beyond JPEGs
While the initial NFT boom focused on digital art and collectibles, the underlying technology (Non-Fungible Tokens) is a secure standard for digital uniqueness and ownership. In Web3, an NFT is a secure cryptographically verified certificate of title.
Real-World Asset (RWA) Tokenization
One of the largest emerging markets in Web3 is RWA tokenization. This involves representing tangible real-world assets as NFTs on a blockchain ledger:
- Real Estate: Fractionalizing commercial properties into NFTs allows retail investors to buy shares of property and earn rent payments directly on-chain.
- Intellectual Property: Authors, musicians, and patentees can issue dynamic licensing rights as NFTs, automating royalty splits and resale cuts.
- Supply Chain Logs: Physical items can have digital twin NFTs that track raw materials, shipping dates, and quality verifications in real-time.
Digital Ticketing and Loyalty
Traditional ticketing is riddled with fraud and scaling issues. Issuing event tickets as NFTs solves counterfeiting, allows organizers to set secondary market price caps, and lets them capture a cut of all peer-to-peer resales automatically.
